John Wentz

John Wentz is a contemporary painter whose work is an exploration of process and technique. Working within the classical idiom of the human figure, his goal is to reduce and simplify the image to it’s core fundamentals: composition, color, and mark making. Paint application and brush strokes are broad and simplified as a means to connect and convey these ideas to the viewer in a way that only painting can.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area John Wentz studied painting at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, CA. After years of working as an instructor in Fine Arts at the Academy Wentz now lives and works in Paris, France.

Among contemporary, deconstructive painters who are challenging and reshaping the tradition of Realism - Wentz can be seen as a visionary in this developing movement and the author of some of the most incisive and relevant paintings being created today.
