John Wentz

Deconstructive painting

Portfolio PDF

John Wentz is a contemporary painter whose work is an exploration of process and technique. Wentz works within the classical language of portraiture, as his aim is to reduce and simplify the image to its core fundamentals: composition, colour and position. Paint application and brushstrokes are broad and simplified to connect and convey this idea to the viewer in a way that only painting can.

Among contemporary deconstructive painters who challenge and reshape the tradition of realism, Wentz can be considered a visionary in this evolving movement and the author of some of the most incisive and relevant paintings being created today.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, John Wentz studied painting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California in 2006. After years of teaching Painting & Fine Arts at the Academy, Wentz now lives and works in Paris, France.
