PEDRO ANACKER

Informal paintings & wood sculptures

Pedro Anacker, born in 1962, is a collector and hunter. He collects old paper, magazines and street materials as well as harbour bollards and ship walls. Special finds become part of his paintings and are incorporated into large, massive canvases, while selected objects from his collection themselves become the painting ground and are interpreted by him in a new and abstract way.

Anacker’s works are complex, informally existential and appear raw and unpolished – the heavy black of his isolated symbols and signs challenges us, while the colourful overpaintings of sheet music and letters soothe us nostalgically.

Nevertheless, a primeval beast lurks in Anacker’s works, an archaic rage or fear that occasionally only flares up from the depths of our unconsciousness.
