MM – CAN YOUR PUSSY DO THE DOG

Vernissage: 01.02.2008, 7pm

Info:

Extreme-stencialist M:M uses style icons of the 60’s and 70’s as inspiration for his work. In his photo-realistic pieces different genres are being shown alongside each other – white trash meets Blaxploitation, Soul meets Rock’n’Roll and Tarantino meets Takeshi Kitano.

The pieces are way more than randomly picked topics, instead they convince with a decisive power and colourcast, meticulous preciseness and a graceful beauty also known from classic paintings. The artist achieves the outstandingly realistic look by using up to 11 colour layers in his monochrome miniature beauties.

Next to the sprayed images of the 60’s playboy pin-ups, which almost remind us of French life-drawings of the 18th century and impress with their tremendous details and remarkable depths, the artist also shows portraits of icons from Rock’n’Roll and Trash. Among others are Mike Ness, front man of the legendary punk band Social Distortion, Billy Childish, the indie icon of the Milkshakes, Poisen Ivy from the Cramps as well as Canned Captured film stills (CCF) from Blaxploitation and Jakuza-Eastern.
